I believe that in order to create a learning environment that is fully inclusive and respectful, the First Peoples Principles of Learning must be understood and embodied in both teaching and learning. These principles offer valuable insight to Indigenous ways of knowing and being and I believe that incorporating them into the classroom can create an environment that values relationality, holistic and experiential learning. Integrating the FPPL’s is also an important part of reconciliation, as Indigenous pedagogies provide educators with the opportunity to move away from Eurocentric perspectives and introduce new ideas of how to learn. These principles provide a framework for teachers to create culturally responsive and meaningful learning experiences for all students, as well as environments where both students and teachers alike can find deeper understanding of themselves, their communities, and the world around them.
