About Me

My name is Stephanie Selman, and I am a 29-year-old woman in the process of obtaining my Bachelor of Education degree from Thompson Rivers University. I grew up in the Delta, BC, and am the middle of three children. I graduated from Delta Secondary School in 2013 and immediately went on to pursue higher education. I took miscellaneous courses in general studies, until switching gears and obtaining my Legal Assistant Certificate from Douglas College in 2016.

After working in that profession for several years I found myself realizing this was not a fulfilling career and I needed to try and find a job that was more conducive to my personal passions. In 2020 I moved from the lower mainland to Sicamous, BC, to join the business my family had recently acquired, Sicamous Houseboats. I spent the next two and a half years working alongside my family as the guest services manager for the company, but still not feeling as though I was in the right profession for me. Being close to my family was incredible, but I still felt I needed to pursue something more meaningful to me personally. In 2022, I made the decision to sign up for university and pursue my passion of becoming an elementary school educator.

I have a collection of hobbies and interests that have shaped who I am as a person, and who I will be as a future teacher. I am very passionate about sports and spent most of my teenage years playing ringette competitively, hockey and ball hockey. Sports have always been very meaningful to me and my family, and I am still finding ways to actively engage in the sports community. I currently play on an adult recreation ringette team, I have spent summers coaching children multi-sports and how to foster a lifelong love for movement and sports, and I love to go on nature walks with my dog. In addition to sports, I have a deep love of music that that I love sharing with all kinds of people. I love singing, playing instruments, and going to concerts, and I am eager to incorporate my love for all types of music into my teaching practice. In addition to sports and music, I too have a great love for reading. I read not only for personal growth, but for entertainment and to reduce my stress and love to explore the worlds and perspectives that are vastly different than my own. Finally, my biggest interest is around spending time with my family and loved ones. I have always been a very family-oriented person, and so I like to surround myself with those I consider supportive, respectful and loving. I have been fortunate enough to have an exceptional family that encourage me to be the best version of myself I can be, and my family has certainly help turn me into the person I am today.

This video was taken on the final day of our first semester of the Bachelor of Education program. To wrap up the semester on a fun note, we planned a pajama party with snacks, stories, and karaoke.
