The BC curriculum is important to me as a future educator because it has helped shape my understanding of what I will be teaching and provided guidance on how to structure my lessons and unit plans and how to assess student learning. In changing the emphasis from grades to curricular competencies and big ideas, and integrating Indigenous knowledge, the curriculum promotes personalized learning and creating inclusive learning environments. I believe that understanding the curriculum is a continuous process of professional development that will, and already has, challenge me to constantly evaluate my teaching and seek ways that I can improve.
